Summitry
Terms of use

The rules of the book.

Summitry is a summit register: an app and a website, run by one person in Zürich. These terms say what you can expect from it and what it expects from you. They are short because the book is simple.

The book

Summitry is sold once, through the App Store or Google Play, and everything the app does is in that price. The purchase itself, refunds included, is handled by the store you bought it from under its own terms. There is no subscription and no advertising.

Your account

The book on the phone is yours without an account. An account keeps it on our server and lets you see other people’s entries. One person, one account; keep the sign-in to yourself. You can delete the account in Settings at any time, with everything in it, at once and for good. Summitry is for people aged 16 and over.

What you write

Everything you put into the book stays yours: entries, notes, photos, lists, comments. You give us the right to store it, to show it to the people your visibility allows, and to show a public entry on the summit’s page on Summitry. That right ends when you delete the entry or the account. A companion you name, a face in a photo, a comment on someone’s entry: you are responsible for what you write about others, as in a paper book. Naming a person who has an account puts your entry in their inbox; whether it goes into their book is their decision.

What does not belong in it

The book is for ascents that happened. Do not sign a summit you were not on. Do not post what is not yours to post, what is unlawful, what harasses or demeans someone, or what serves to sell something. Do not use the app to collect other people’s entries or the summit catalogue in bulk, and reach the server only through the app.

What we may remove

If an entry, a comment or a profile breaks these rules, we may hide or remove it, and in a serious or repeated case suspend the account. Where we can, we write to you first. If you find something that should not be there, report it from the app (the “…” on an entry, a comment or a profile) or write to support@summitry.app; we look at every report, and you can block a person so that neither of you sees the other.

Mountains

Summitry is a register, not a guide. A verified signature means the phone was near the summit; it says nothing about the route, the weather or whether you should have been there. Summit heights, names and positions come from surveys and OpenStreetMap and can be wrong. Where you go and how you come back is your decision and your responsibility.

Maps and the catalogue

Map data comes from the national surveys and OpenStreetMap under their licences, which are named in the app. The catalogue and the maps are there for your own use in the app.

Strava and imports

Connecting Strava or importing a GPX file is your choice and reads only your own data. What Strava lets you do with your data is between you and Strava. A track is read to find the summits it crossed and is not kept.

The service

We keep the app and the server running as well as one person can, and we change the app as it grows. The book on your phone works without a connection; the server may be down at times. Should Summitry ever close, you will hear about it in advance and can export your book first. As far as the law allows, we are not liable for what the app shows or fails to show, and never for what happens on a mountain.

Changes to these terms

When these terms change, the date below changes with them, and a change that matters is announced before it applies. If you keep using Summitry after that, the new terms apply.

The law

These terms are governed by Swiss law, and the courts of Zürich decide a dispute, unless the law where you live gives you a stronger right, which stays yours. Questions go to support@summitry.app.
